EIB supports Spain’s 1st immunology research centre with €80m

The European Investment Bank (EIB) and CriteriaCaixa, the holding company of “la Caixa” Foundation, have signed an €80 million loan agreement to finance the construction of Spain’s first biomedical research centre focused on immunology, the CaixaResearch Institute, in Barcelona.

The project, with a total budget of €110 million, is expected to be completed by 2025.

The institute aims to enhance Europe’s healthcare innovation by attracting top researchers and advancing biomedical research in autoimmune, neurological, oncological, and infectious diseases. The new facility will also prioritise energy efficiency, aligning with the EU’s climate goals.

This financing aligns with the EIB’s 2024-2027 strategic plan, emphasising investment in research, social infrastructure, and EU competitiveness.
