El Deweiqa and Cairo’s governorate security in violent clashes

Hundreds of Deweiqa’s families protesting in front of the building of Cairo’s governorate in Abdin, have entered into violent clashes with givernorate’s security who prevented them from entering the building.

Families were protesting to demand new housing units, following the governorate’s announcement last week that stated the eligibility of 70 person of this district to obtain housing units.

Clashes started by curses and screaming and escalated to hand clashes along with throwing stones and rocks towards the building, resulting in people’s injuries.

One of the governorate’s employees reported to El Ahram Gate that the reason that led to the escalation of events was the running over of one of the people by security’s vehicle. The injured was transferred to the nearest hospital due to his severe injuries.

News about cancelling the governorate executive committee’s session was echoed. It was scheduled to take place today.
