EU accuses Apple of breaching tech rules
The European Commission, acting as both EU antitrust and technology regulator, announced on Monday that Apple’s App Store rules violate EU tech rules known as the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Following an investigation initiated in March, the commission has forwarded its initial findings to Apple.
The EU executive, in addition to probing Apple for breaching the DMA, has launched a separate investigation into the tech giant’s new contractual obligations imposed on third-party app developers and app stores, focusing specifically on three of Apple’s business terms.
According to the EU watchdog, these terms prohibit developers from freely guiding their customers. For instance, developers are restricted from displaying pricing details within the app or communicating with customers to promote offers available through alternative distribution channels.
