EU approves Greece’s 4th recovery payment of €998.6m

The European Union (EU) has endorsed a positive preliminary assessment of Greece’s fourth payment request for €998.6 million in grants, following the disbursement of loans on 23 July 2024, under the Recovery and Resilience Facility.

The European Commission concluded that Greece has successfully met 16 milestones and four targets tied to this payment.

Key reforms and investments include measures to boost renewable energy, improve water management, enhance healthcare and education, modernise taxation, and upgrade the justice system.

Significant investments include the Cyclades Islands’ electricity interconnection and a large-scale reforestation initiative aimed at preventing forest fires.

The package also supports the digital transformation of Greece’s justice system, reducing reliance on paper and expediting legal proceedings.
