EU bankruptcies up 3.1% in Q2 ’24
The number of European Union (EU) business bankruptcies rose by 3.1 per cent in the second quarter of 2024, compared to 1.04 per cent in the first quarter, while business registrations declined by 2.1 per cent against 1.7 per cent in the first quarter, according to Eurostat data released today.
All economic sectors saw a drop in registrations, with the most significant decreases in trade by 4.7 per cent, industry by 3.6 per cent, and education and social activities by 3.4 per cent.
Conversely, bankruptcies showed mixed trends across sectors. Decreases were observed in information and communication by 4.8 per cent, transport by 1.6 per cent, and accommodation and food services by 1.1 per cent, while increases were noted in construction by 3.8 per cent, financial activities by 2.6 per cent, and trade by 2.4 per cent.
