The Council of the EU renewed its restrictive measures against Russia for an additional six months, now valid until January 31, 2025.
Originally imposed in 2014 and significantly expanded since February 2022, these sanctions target Russia’s de-stabilising actions in Ukraine.
The measures include comprehensive sectoral restrictions affecting trade, finance, technology, and luxury goods.
Key aspects of the sanctions are a ban on importing seaborne crude oil and certain petroleum products from Russia, the exclusion of several Russian banks from the SWIFT system, and the suspension of Kremlin-backed disinformation outlets in the EU.
The EU remains committed to enforcing these measures as long as Russia continues its illegal aggression, with the possibility of introducing further sanctions if needed.
