Euro area construction output rises in June 2024
Construction production increased by 1.7 per cent in the euro area and by 1.4 per cent in the EU in June 2024, reversing declines seen in May. The rise was driven by a 1.8 per cent increase in building construction and a 1.1 per cent boost in civil engineering within the euro area.
In contrast, production in the EU experienced a marginal 0.1 per cent rise in building construction and a 1.4 per cent increase in civil engineering.
Year-on-year, construction output in the euro area grew by 1.0 per cent, while it decreased by 0.1 per cent in the EU.
Notable monthly gains were seen in Portugal (3.2 per cent), Romania (2.6 per cent), and France (1.7 per cent), while declines were observed in Slovenia by 9.1 per cent, Hungary by 6.4 per cent, and Poland by 2.1 per cent.
Annual production increases were prominent in Spain (4.8 per cent), Bulgaria (2.9 per cent), and Portugal (2.7 per cent), whereas the largest decreases were in Slovenia by 19.0 per cent, the Czech Republic by 10.2 per cent , and Sweden by 9.0 per cent.
