Facebook Takes on Apple, Google With App Center

Apple and Google already have their own app stores, the App Store, and Google Play, respectively. Apple’s app store features more than 500,000 apps, including over 200,000 for the iPad. Apple recently celebrated its 25 billionth app download. Google has over 500,000 games and apps in Google Play, and recently surpassed the 10 billion download mark.

Facebook’s mobile strategy has been a major source of concern for investors, and the company itself. The social networking giant recently bought Instagram to make the mobile experience better for users. However, the company does not generate any meaningful revenue from its mobile, so its App Center may be a way for the company to soothe investors’ concerns.

The App Center can be found on Facebook’s mobile app for Android phones, as well as Facebook.com. The App Center started appearing in the United States last night, and will become available to the entire world in the upcoming weeks.
