Egypt’s state grain buyer, the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), will issue its first tender for meat this week, GASC Vice-Chairman Mamdouh Abdel Fattah told a local newspaper.
The size of the meat tender was not specified, but it is the latest move to expand the state buyer’s variety of imports and distribute them to both the public and private sector in order to curb rising prices in essential goods. ID:nL3N1304YD]
GASC will also announce the winner of its first poultry tender on Monday.
GASC was not immediately available for comment on Sunday.
The state buyer told the paper that an offer from an American company had been accepted to supply 500 tonnes of poultry.
GASC is still currently in the process of determining what other goods it will be importing and distributing, Abdel Fattah said.
