The Green Climate Fund (GCF) approved on Tuesday over $130 million for two projects led by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to enhance climate resilience and sustainable development in Kenya and Serbia.
In Kenya, a $50 million project—comprising a $29.2 million GCF grant and $20.8 million in co-financing—will transform agricultural value chains in the Lake Region Economic Bloc, benefiting 2.7 million people. It aims to promote climate-resilient practices, create up to 3,000 jobs, and support 143,000 farmers.
In Serbia, an $84 million project, including a $25 million GCF grant and $59 million in co-financing, will strengthen forest resilience and energy security, benefiting 3.6 million people.
The initiative includes afforestation, sustainable biomass value chains, and capacity building.
