Giza Residents Block Road Over Security Absence

Dozens of residents of Giza’s El-Saff district blocked the village’s main road on Friday to protest the absence of security forces in the area since August, when the village’s police station was burned down during the recent wave of political violence throughout the country.

Protesters decried the lack of protection in the rural district south of Giza as a result of police absence. The area’s only police station was destroyed during clashes between supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi and security forces in August. These protests followed the forced dispersal of the two largest pro-Morsi protest camps in Cairo on 14 August, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of protesters.

A number of security officials are currently negotiating with the residents to reopen the road, Ahram Arabic’s news website reports.
