Google to launch Pixel Fold in June

Google will launch its first foldable smartphone in June, to compete with Samsung’s foldable phone business, according to CNBC on Tuesday, it is planning to announce the device at Google I/O, its annual developer conference, on May 10.

The foldable phones will have the name Pixel Fold and will have the “most durable hinge on a foldable” on a phone, according to documents viewed by CNBC.

The phone will cost $1,700 and is set to compete with Samsung’s $1,799 GalaxyZ Fold 4.

Pixel Fold will be marketed as pocket-sized, water-resistant, and with an outside screen of 5.8 inches across.

The phone will be slightly heavier than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4, however, it has a larger battery. According to Google the battery will last for 24 hours, or 72 hours if in a low power mode.

Pixel will have exclusive features powered by Tensor processor that are not available on all Android phones, such as the photo editing options.

The company plans to offer a free Pixel Watch, the latest smart watch, to Pixel Fold buyers.
