The Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), Hisham Ramez, said there are some fruitless attempts to interfere in his job indirectly; affirming that he will resign if any decision related to the banking system was taken against his will.
During an interview with Amr Adib on Al-Qahera Al-Youm TV talk show, Ramez revealed that he has known of the new tax law and the loan loss provision tax from the media.
The president’s decision to impose taxes on loan loss provisions will be reconsidered as it was made without coordination, he added.
No tax will be imposed on deposits as the Central Bank of Egypt aims to increase the number of people having bank accounts in Egypt from 10 million customers to 50 million, he noted.
Ramez said he suggested some names to head the governmental banks and the Prime Minister will be the one who choose, affirming that no one has imposed upon him a certain name to be the new chairman of the National Bank of Egypt (NBE).
