Appearing on the Jay Leno show, Mitt Romney says he’d be happy to share a ticket with rival Rick Santorum as his VP.
“I’m happy with him saying he’d like to be part of an administration with me, nothing wrong with that, if he’s the VP that’s better. I’d rather be the president, let him be the vice president,” Romney said of Santorum on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, broadcast on Tuesday night.
Mr. Romney also talked about Mr. Obama’s plans to remove 33,000 “surge” troops from Afghanistan by October 2012, leaving a force of around 68,000 to fight the Taliban and train Afghan forces.
“I don’t think you publish deadlines. When you’re in a conflict, you don’t say: we’re getting out as of this date, regardless of the circumstances. I think that communicates to your opponent and to the other people who are trying to gauge how much they can depend on you whether you’re going to be there for them or not,” Mr. Romney said.
On the lighter side, the strait-laced candidate was quickly sidetracked into commenting on Rick Santorum’s recent vow to crack down on pornography if he were elected president.
“Did you ever think we’d be talking about porn, with all the other things in this election?” Leno asked, according to Telegraph.com.
“I didn’t know we were talking about porn,” Romney said to laughter from the audience.
