Egypt has imported 100.000 tonnes of steel since the beginning of 2015 with total cost of 480 million Egyptian pounds (around US$63 million), Ahmed El-Zeiny – Head of the building materials division at Cairo Chamber of Commerce- said Monday.
El-Zeiny further told Amwal Al Ghad that the imported amounts were less than what Egypt had imported previously due to the decision made by the Egyptian Industry Ministry to impose protective tariffs on steels imports.
Moreover, the official noted that steel prices in May 2015 are stable to range between 4.900- 5.050 pound per tonne and 4.750-4.800 pounds for the imported tonne.
