India’s wholesale inflation up 2.04% YoY in July

India’s wholesale price index (WPI) increased 2.04 per cent in July from a year earlier, driven by high food prices, according to a report released by Press Information Bureau on Wednesday.

While food prices rose 3.55 per cent year-on-year in July, this was a significant drop from the 8.68 per cent increase in June. Notably, vegetable prices fell 8.93 per cent year-on-year after surging 38.76 per cent in the previous month.

Manufactured product prices also contributed to the overall slowdown, rising 1.58 per cent year-on-year compared to 1.43 per cent in June.

However, fuel and power prices continued to increase, albeit at a slower pace of 1.72 per cent compared to 1.03 per cent in the previous month.
