Eng. Atef Helmy, Egyptian Telecom Minister has asserted that mobile phone and internet services have affected in North Sinai and this due to the difficulty of maintenance and repair work to the strengthen towers in the region.
The Minister has pointed out that the outage of internet services is due to technical problems and sending specialist engineers to this region because of terrorist attacks and the hours of Curfew, noting that it is expected that the next period will witness a significant improvement in mobile phone and internet services.
The Minister has revealed that the mobile phone operators are aiming to implement from 12 to 19 strengthen stations so as to increase the quality of the services in North and South Sinai within the coming period.
Helmy said Vodafone Egypt has won the tender which offered by the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) to cover South Sinai region with mobile phone services.
Eng. Hisham Alayli, CEO of NTRA said Vodafone Egypt obtained a license to cover South Sinai according to the submitted tender by NTRA, explaining that Mobinil and Etisalat Egypt did not submit to the tender which led to the winning of Vodafone with the tender.
