Italy’s inflation eases in September ’24

Italy’s consumer price index (CPI) decreased by 0.2 per cent on a monthly basis in September 2024, while annual inflation slowed to 0.7 per cent, down from 1.1 per cent in August, according to preliminary estimates.

The deceleration was primarily attributed to falling prices of regulated energy products, which dropped from 14.3 per cent to 10.0 per cent, and non-regulated energy products, which fell from -8.6 per cent to -11.0 per cent.

The inflationary gap between services and goods narrowed, with services growing at +2.8 per cent compared to goods, which saw a year-on-year decline of -0.8 per cent.

In September, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) rose by 1.2 per cent month-on-month and 0.8 per cent year-on-year, reflecting seasonal price adjustments in clothing and footwear.
