Japan’s consumer confidence steady at 36.7 in August – data

Japan’s consumer sentiment remained stable in August, with the seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index holding steady at 36.7, the same level as July, according to data from the Cabinet Office released on Thursday.

The survey, conducted on August 15 covering 8,400 households, revealed mixed results across different components of consumer sentiment.

The index reflecting households’ overall livelihood saw a modest improvement, rising by 0.2 points to 34.7. Similarly, the index measuring willingness to buy durable consumer goods increased by 0.9 points, reaching 30.9.

However, not all indicators were positive. The employment index experienced a decline, dropping by 0.6 points to 41.4. Additionally, the income growth index decreased to 39.7, down from 40.4 in the previous month.
