Khalda Petroleum announces new oil discovery in Egypt’s Western Desert

Khalda Petroleum, which operates concessions in Egypt for US Apache Corp, has made a new oil find in the west of Phiops-1 in the Kalabsha concession in the Western Desert, the Oil Ministry said on Wednesday.

Khalda is a joint-venture between Apache and the state-controlled Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

The new discovery produces 7,165 barrels of oil per day and 23 million cubic feet of associated gas, a ministry statement said. The oil discovered is of high quality, with an API gravity of 44 degrees.

This discovery is a positive development for Egypt’s oil industry and could contribute to the country’s energy security. Further exploration and development efforts are underway to assess the full potential of the new oil field.
