Laos to use AI for accurate carbon credit calculations

The Lao government has announced plans to utilise advanced AI satellite technology to calculate carbon credits and prevent fraudulent data, the Lao News Agency reported according to Xinhua.

This initiative is a key component of the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) programme, which aims to curb emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.

The technology is expected to reduce fraud, cut costs, and expedite processes, underscoring Laos’ commitment to a sustainable future.

The pilot project will establish new standards for accuracy and transparency in carbon credit calculation, setting benchmarks for the ASEAN region.

The goal is to enhance the measurement of carbon content in forests across Laos and ASEAN, ensuring the integrity and value of carbon credits through continuous monitoring.
