Limited fire at Egypt’s Alexandria Petroleum contained, no injuries reported – ministry

A limited fire at Alexandria Petroleum Company was contained within about 15 minutes on Monday evening after a leak from the upper section of a distillation tower, Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said.

The production unit was immediately shut down and three fire engines from the company were deployed to deal with the fire, the ministry said.

The fire was fully contained, cooling operations were completed and the site was secured. No injuries were reported.

Technical procedures are underway to determine the cause of the incident and inspect the unit and its components before it is restarted in line with occupational health and safety requirements, the ministry said.

The incident did not affect the company’s operations or the continuity of its activities, it added.
