Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said the local and external public debt per capita registered EGP 15,327 at the end of the first half of FY 2011/2012.
Local public debt per capita reached EGP 13,008 as the debt rose to EGP 1.132 billion at the end of the second quarter of the current fiscal year, up from EGP 1.095 billion at the end of the first quarter.
External public debt per capita reached US$ 386.5 (=EGP 2,319) as external debt retreated to US$ 33.692 billion, down from US$ 33.997 billion.
The net local government debt rose to register 57% of GDP at the end of the second quarter and external debt registered 12.9% of GDP, according to CBE’s latest report.
CBE said Egypt population reached 87.1 million people; of which 80.4 million living in Egypt and 6.7 million living abroad.
