Meta launches paid verification system fot $12 monthly

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, announced on Sunday that the new verification system will cost $11.99 month on web or $14.99 for iPhone users.

The new service will begin rolling out a paid subscription program allowing Facebook and Instagram users to verify their accounts with a blue badge with a monthly subscription.

“The subscription service will increase authenticity and security across Meta’s services by verifying users accounts with a government ID,” Zuckerberg said.

Zuckerberg further continued that the subscription will launch in Australia and New Zealand this week, while the other countries will follow soon.

Facebook’s move to monetize the check mark comes after Elon Musk announced a similar move last year with Twitter’s coveted blue verified check mark.
