Microsoft & Google Reach Agreement To Work On Windows Phone Youtube App

Microsoft and Google have finally put an end to their clash over the YouTube app for Windows Phone. Google today announced that it will work with Microsoft to deliver a YouTube app that complies with policies.

Google recently demand that Microsoft remove its YouTube app because it did not run pre-roll advertisements, supported downloads, and included videos that creators specifically requested that their content not be streamed to mobile devices. Microsoft countered that it had no problems showing ads but were unable to because Google refused to provide access to the API necessary to show ads. That appears to be exactly what’s happening in the upcoming update to YouTube for Windows Phone.

The statement jointly issued by Google and Microsoft reads:

“Microsoft and YouTube are working together to update the new YouTube for Windows Phone app to enable compliance with YouTube’s API terms of service, including enabling ads, in the coming weeks. Microsoft will replace the existing YouTube app in Windows Phone Store with the previous version during this time.”
