New $3bn solar power plant in Aswan – governor

Aswan governorate is currently establishing a solar power plant with investments estimated at around US$3 billion to produce 2,000Mw, governor Magdy Hegazy stated in an interview with Amwal Al Ghad.

Hegazy said Sunday that the governorate is making use of its available resources to start the execution works of establishing 39 solar projects in Benban area in addition to the largest phosphate complex.

Aswan is about 683.3 kilometers from Cairo (424.6 miles)

The governor said that Aswan targets enhancing all cooperation means with Ministry of Investment and the General Authority for Investments (GAFI) to convert all investment opportunities available in different sectors into projects through promoting and presenting them to the investors.

He added that Aswan governorate owns a lot of projects and investment opportunities for which the governorate is set to coordinate with the investment ministry to present them to the investors in order to lower the current unemployment rates.

Hegazy emphasised on the importance of providing the suitable environment for investing in Aswan and attracting more investments that could provide more job opportunities.

On other side, investment ministry  gave the approval to Aswan governorate  to start making the studies of establishing two logistic areas in Qastal and Erbil ports which are located on the Egyptian-Sudanese borders.

The governor stated that the two logistic zones are set to boost the trade movement between Egypt and Sudan in addition to opening new markets in Africa for the Egyptian products.
