Nile University Calls Upon Morsi to Resolve Its Dispute with Zewail City

Dr. Mohamed Morsi, before being elected President of the Republic, emphasized that he will handle the problem between Nile University (NU) and zewail City on an equal footing, given that the ownership of the buildings belonging to Nile University  have been transferred to Zewail City under Ahmed Shafiq’s government. On the other hand, days ago a number of Nile University students have  organized sit-ins in front of the headquarter of the buildings under dispute, demanding transferring the headquarter of Nile University from Smart Village to El Sheikh Zayed Buildings. However, the students were accused of infringing the buildings of Zewail City and whereupon the prosecution decided to submit the building to Zewail project.

In a confrontation between NU students and Zewail City fans , the students supported their stance saying the dispute over the university has lasted for almost 12 years and ended with transferring the NU into a public university, equal to governmental universities. On the other side, Zewail City fans highlighted that the technological project that will be carried out on that plot will lead Egypt to acquire international stature that would exceed the importance of any other projects, referring to the prosecution’s decision to allocate the plot to Zewail City.

Nile University Chairman  Tarek Khalil has called upon President Mohamed Morsi to end this dispute, stressing that any delay  in handling this issue would hinder its work with international research foundations and would affect the volume of researches conducted and percentage of success  recorded by researchers.

He denounced the calls for closing the university because it was founded by  Former Primer Minister Ahmed Nazif, who is charged with squandering public money. He explained that Ahmed Nazif was only one of 55 founders.
