Nokia Networks lands German rail network deal

Nokia Networks has Tuesday been awarded an eight-year contract from DB Netz AG, the rail infrastructure company of Deutsche Bahn AG, to modernize its rail communication network in southern Germany.

It will replace the existing Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway (GSM-R) radio systems and the deal also includes long-term support with help from its European R&D center in Hungary.

Dirk Lewandowski, Head of Railway Solutions at Nokia Networks, said: “This is one of our biggest GSM-R contracts so far and will greatly increase our footprint in Europe.”
