Nokia secures deal to boost 5G network in India

Nokia secured a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar extension deal with Bharti Airtel to further expand and modernise the latter’s 4G and 5G networks across key Indian cities and states.

Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy its state-of-the-art 5G AirScale portfolio, including base stations, baseband units, and cutting-edge Massive MIMO radios, as per its statement on Wednesday.

These solutions, powered by Nokia’s energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology, will significantly enhance Airtel’s network capacity and coverage, delivering superior 5G experiences to its customers.

Additionally, Nokia will modernise Airtel’s existing 4G network with multiband radios and baseband equipment, which are also capable of supporting 5G.

To ensure optimal network performance, Airtel will leverage Nokia’s MantaRay Network Management system, an AI-powered solution that provides intelligent network monitoring, management, and optimisation capabilities.

Airtel has always been at the forefront of network innovation, and this strategic partnership with Nokia will enable us to future-proof our infrastructure and deliver unparalleled user experiences, said Vice Chairman and MD of Bharti Airtel.
