Telecom Egypt’s board of directors has approved on Saturday the appointment of Eng. Omar El-Sheikh as the the company’s Chairman, succeeding Eng. Akil Bashir, who has resigned last week.
Eng. El-Sheikh , who has been holding the position of head of governmental relations in Vodafone, is supported by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Hany Mahmoud. The Minister strongly believes that El-Sheikh is capable of improving Telecom Egypt’s performance in light of the difficulties facing it. The most notable of these difficulties are the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), and the continuously decreasing number of fixed phone subscribers, amounting now to only 8 million.
