Egyptian interim Prime Minister Hazem El-Beblawi has said it is not in the best interests of the US to sever ties with Egypt following the recent ouster of Mohamed Morsi, highlighting a “change” in the American position on the political situation in Egypt over the past few weeks.
“The way they [the US] change their position on Egypt indicates they will not end their relations with Egypt,” El-Beblawi, who has recently formed an interim cabinet that is working under temporary President Adly Mansour, told Egyptian state television during a lengthy interview
Morsi’s ouster, which came as part of a roadmap enforced by the armed forces following nationwide mass protests, has alarmed Egypt’s allies in the West, including Washington.
“The whole world wants Egypt to be stable,” El-Beblawi said. “The US will eventually accept what happened.”
