Radiation Leak Threatens Greater Cairo With Leukemia

Sources within the Atomic Energy Authority said that a radiation leak occurred inside the irradiation unit “gamma” in Nasr City for the second time in less than two months.

Sources explained that the incident is very serious this time as the leakage is up to 10 times twice the normal rate.

Sources pointed out that a complete set of several radiological materials fell in tanks of water for nearly two weeks, but that the head of the Center of Radiation Technology has taken a decision to hide the incident and to close the irradiation unit and to stop all industrial works that the unit is in charge of.

The Ministry of Electricity and Energy issued a Press Releases denying the incident, which threatens the population of nasr city.

Doctors say that such environmental disaster threatening the infection of leukemia, which will move to all the people of Greater Cairo Due to leakage of contaminated water to the main sewer network.
Sources refused to reveal any more data or information about the incident, to Al Fajr portal.

It is worth to be mentioning that this incident is the second of its kind in less than two months where the previous incident took place in the same unit of Radiation Technology Center based in Nasr City.
