ROX vehicles to enter production in Egypt by Q3 2027

ROX range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs) are expected to enter production in Egypt in the second or third quarter of 2027, with more than 50 per cent of initial output destined for export markets, the investment ministry said on Monday.

Annual production is expected to gradually reach about 10,000 vehicles within the first three years of operation, with exports to Gulf and African markets set to begin in the second half of 2027, the ministry said.

The project forms part of the strategic partnership between Chinese automaker Rox Motor and Ezz El Arab–El Sewedy Industrial Investment (ESAF Holding) to establish a joint venture for local vehicle production in Egypt.

The vehicles will be manufactured at Ezz Elsewedy Automotive Factories’ $100 million industrial base, which currently has production capacity of about 40,000 vehicles annually. Planned expansion phases are expected to increase capacity to more than 80,000 vehicles per year.

Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid said the project aligns with Egypt’s strategy to attract industrial investments that support technology transfer, deepen local manufacturing, and increase integration into global value chains.

Farid said the project would benefit from incentives offered under Egypt’s automotive industry development programme, as well as customs and investment regulations designed to encourage industrial production and exports.

Egypt has been seeking to attract investment in vehicle manufacturing as part of broader efforts to expand local production, increase exports, and develop electric and alternative-energy vehicle industries.
