Russia and Egypt have signed an intergovernmental contract for the delivery of Mikoyan MiG-29 fighters, a source in the MiG Corporation told Interfax-AVN on August 21.

“A contract has been signed with Egypt at an intergovernmental level, and we will be next,” the source said.

The newspaper Vedomosti said earlier, quoting sources in the Russian aircraft industry, that a contract for the delivery of 46 MiG-29 fighters to Egypt had been coordinated. “The contract for the delivery of 46 MiG aircraft with armaments may cost up to $2 billion,” it said.

Federal Service for Military-Technological Cooperation (FSMTC) Director Alexander Fomin told reporters at a recent show in South Africa that Russia had initialed a package of arms contracts with Egypt to a total cost of $3.5 billion. “Yes, indeed,” Fomin said in answering a question as to whether Russia and Egypt had initialed $3.5 billion in arms contracts.

However, MiG Corporation said, “The corporation does not have such contract with Egypt.”
