South Korean AI chip makers Rebellions Inc and Sapeon Korea Inc have officially merged, as announced by the privately held companies on Sunday. The announcement follows merger negotiations initiated in June.
This strategic merger signifies the latest effort by South Korean firms to challenge dominant global players like Nvidia in the AI chip landscape.
Sapeon is backed by prominent South Korean companies, including SK Telecom, the country’s largest telecom operator, and SK Hynix, the world’s second-largest memory chipmaker.
Rebellions, on the other hand, recently secured a $15 million investment from Wa’ed Ventures, the venture capital arm of Saudi Aramco. This investment, along with previous funding, brings Rebellions’ total capital to more than $225 million.
