S. Korea’s foreign resident employment rate hit 64.7% in ’24

South Korea’s employment rate for foreign residents stood at 64.7 per cent in 2024, according to data from the National Statistical Office released on Tuesday.

Out of 1.56 million foreign residents aged 15 and older, 64.7 per cent were employed, while 3.9 per cent were unemployed, and 31.4 per cent were economically inactive.

Among employed foreigners, 45.6 per cent worked in the mining and manufacturing industries, while 18.9 per cent were in wholesale, retail, lodging, and restaurant sectors. Additionally, 14.2 per cent were employed in private sector and public service roles, 10.6 per cent in construction, and 8.3 per cent in agriculture and fisheries.
