Visiting IRI Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi in his Thursday meeting with Egypt President Mohammad Morsi would deliver President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s message to his Egyptian counterpart.
According to the dispatched IRNA reporter to Cairo, the Spokesman of the Egyptian Presidential Office, Yasser Ali, in a press conference Wednesday night referring to the scheduled meeting between visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Salehi and the Egyptian President Morsi, added, ‘The details of President Ahmadinejad’s message would be announced after its delivery to President Morsi.’
Salehi’s official visit of Egypt would take two days.
In addition to the Egyptian President and his the Egyptian Foreign Minister Muhammad Kamil Amr, Salehi is scheduled to meet the representative of both the UN and the Arab League in Syrian affairs Akhdar Ebrahimi and the Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil al-Arabi in this visit.
Salehi would also talk with the Egyptian official on an upcoming Islamic Conference in Cairo.
He is also scheduled to meet the head of Egyptian Coptic Christians Pope Taradus II and the Sheikh of Egypt’s Al-Azhar University Ahmad al-Tayyib.
IRI Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Akbar Salehi in last leg of his African tour arrived in Egypt’s capital city, Egypt, late Wednesday night.
According to the dispatched IRNA reporter, the Iranian top diplomat is scheduled to meet the top Egyptian official in this visit, including the Egyptian President Muhammad Morsi and Minister of Foreign Affairs Muhammad Kamil Amr, and exchange ideas on issues of mutual interest, and seek ways for expansion of bilateral cooperation.
Salehi would in this visit consult with Egyptian officials about the latest regional official about the latest regional developments, particularly in Syrian and Palestine.
This is the second visit of Egypt by Salehi during the tenure of President Morsi, who has also visited Iran once to attend the 16th Non Aligned Movement (NAM) Tehran Summit as the head of NAM and had the NAM presidency for the next four years to Iran.
In April 2012, Iran appointed an ambassador to Egypt. Soon after Mohammed Morsi visited Iran in August 2012, it was decided to reestablish bilateral diplomatic relations, with rededication of embassy locations.
A first ambassador was nominated to represent Egypt in Iran. While overall relations have been steadily improving, continued tensions between Iran, Saudi Arabia and allied Western nations have put this development into question.
