SCZONE launches solar plant at Siemens energy centre

The General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) inaugurated on Tuesday a solar power plant at the Siemens Energy Centre within the integrated Sokhna Port zone.

The new plant is part of SCZONE’s commitment to supporting green projects aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and its environmental goals.

The plant, boasting a capacity of 1.9 MW and comprising 3,280 solar panels spread across an area of 8,500 square metres, is a significant step towards Egypt’s renewable energy ambitions.

Expected to generate approximately 3 GWh of clean electricity annually, it will cover about 90% of the site’s energy needs, thus reducing carbon emissions by an impressive 1,500 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year, according to a joint statement by the SCZONE and the Cabinet.

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker emphasised the importance of private sector involvement in renewable energy initiatives to achieve the nation’s green energy objectives.

For his part, German Ambassador to Egypt Frank Hartmann highlighted the crucial role of German companies, such as Siemens Energy, in Egypt’s green transformation plans.

Siemens Energy, renowned for its expertise in green energy technologies, aims to achieve net-zero emissions in its operations by 2030.
