Security forces storm 2 Egyptian campuses amid student protests

Students, mainly sympathisers of Students Against the Coup, were staging a protest on Wednesday to demand the release of detained female colleagues.

Security forces also stormed the campus of Zagazig University in Sharqiya where students were conducting an anti-government protest.

Students, mainly supporters of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, held near-daily protests during the previous academic year. At least 19 students were killed, according to rights groups.

The violence resumed in the new academic year, with one student killed at a protest in Alexandria University.

Dozens of students have been either arrested or expelled this term.

A controversial protest law, issued in November 2013, banned unauthorised protests. Its provisions are deemed too restrictive by rights groups.
