Shell shareholder meeting discontinued by climate protesters

The annual general shareholder meeting of Shell was discontinued on Tuesday due to climate activists protesting against the oil giant.

Chairman Andrew Mackenzie was unable to start the meeting since protesters kept chanting against the company. Shouting activists were carried out by security staff later on.

Shell’s shareholder meeting last year has witnessed similar incidents, when protests have delayed the meeting for around three hours.

Shell is also faced by some shareholders’ pressure to accelerate tackling climate change. Investors, on the other hand, are pressuring for securing profits from oil and gas.
