Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi directed on Thursday the withdrawal of vacant and unused industrial land to ensure the optimal use of land allocated for industrial development, the presidency said.
Sisi made the directives during a meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, Minister of Petroleum aKarim Badawi, and Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem.
The meeting discussed coordination between the Ministries of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Industry, including efforts to strengthen regional cooperation in the energy sector, expand industrial activity, deepen local manufacturing, and increase the added value of national production.
Hashem reviewed efforts to localise feeder and complementary industries in Egypt, particularly refractories and alloys, as well as engineering industries and foundries. The meeting also discussed ways to maximise the local use of scrap and attract related industrial investments.
The Minister of Industry also reviewed measures to deepen Egypt’s steel industry, expand the manufacturing of local raw materials, and maximise their economic utilisation.
The meeting also reviewed efforts to strengthen industrial cooperation with African countries and the European Union to support increased production and exports and technology transfer.
Sisi directed continued facilitation of procedures for establishing new factories in priority sectors in line with the state’s industrial strategy, alongside intensifying efforts to attract foreign direct investment in the industrial sector and accelerating the localisation of industries to enhance the productive capacities and competitiveness of the national economy.
