South Valley Cement installs coal mill worth 200mn Egyptian pounds

South Valley Cement Company (SVCE) plans to complete installation of a coal mill by mid-2016, general manager Ahmed Ibrahim said Sunday.

With investments worth 200 million Egyptian pounds (US$25.5 million), the mill is to serve the company’s plans to use coal as an alternative energy fuel.

Speaking to Amwal Al Ghad, Ibrahim said the company will need to import around 230,000 tonnes of coal annually to operate its factory in Beni Suef governorate, located about 115 km (71 miles) south of Cairo.

The official added that SVCE has cooperated with a Chinese contracting company to implement the project as well as applying European experiences to purchase coal mills and clinkers.
