U.S. stocks edged up on Monday, resulting in a fresh record close for the Dow industrials. The Dow Jones Industrial Average tacked on 21.32 points, or 0.1%, to finish at 15,783.10, topping its record close on Friday.
The S&P 500 gained 1.28 points, or 0.1%, to close 1,771.89, just below its record closing level on Oct. 29. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.56 point to end at 3,919.79. Investors weighed encouraging Chinese economic reports that came out over the weekend and helped Asian and European equities. They also continued to digest Friday’s better-than-expected U.S. jobs report. Bond traders had a holiday on Monday thanks to Veterans Day, and there also were no economic reports from the U.S. government.
