Suez Canal Revenues Fall by 3.4% in 2012/2013

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said revenues from Suez Canal transit fell by 3.4%, or $200 million during 2012/2013 to record $5 billion, compared with $5.2 billion a year earlier, according to Youm7 gazette.

The waterway is one of the main sources of foreign currency for an Egyptian economy struggling to head off a currency crisis, alongside tourism, oil and gas exports and remittances from Egyptians living abroad.
