Suez Canal traffic unaffected by rig sinking incident

Suez Canal traffic remains uninterrupted following the sinking of the ADMARINE 12 offshore rig near Gebel El-Zeit, about 130 nautical miles from the canal’s southern entrance, the Suez Canal Authority announced on Wednesday.

A total of 33 vessels transited the canal on the same day, with a combined net tonnage of 1.4 million tons.

Chairman Osama Rabie confirmed that navigation is proceeding normally in both directions, as the incident occurred outside the canal’s navigational channel. The Central Emergency and Crisis Management Operations is monitoring developments and coordinating with relevant bodies.

Rabie also affirmed the Authority’s readiness to provide assistance if required, citing its advanced rescue units and experienced maritime teams.
