Tesla’s German plant hits 4,000 cars per week

Tesla Motors announced on Monday that its plant in Brandenburg near Berlin is currently producing 4,000 cars per week, three weeks ahead of schedule, according to a recent production plan reviewed by Reuters.

The plant’s output is now a third of Model Y output in Shanghai, where Tesla planned on keeping an average total output of 13,000 Model Ys per week.

This came at around 1,000 below maximum capacity, according to the production plan there is also a further 7,000 Model 3s in February and March.

Tesla had a plan of reaching 4,000 cars per week by the 15th of March and to reach 5,000 by the end of June. The company had hit a production of 2,000 cars per week in October of 2022 and 3,000 cars per weeks in December.

The maximum capacity for the plant is planned to be 500,000 vehicles a year, around 10,000 per week.

Tesla also began to assemble batteries in Germany to be used in the plant’s vehicles soon. However, the company said that it will focus on production in the U.S., due to the Inflation Reduction Act incentives.

The American electric-vehicle maker also said on Wednesday that it will produce cell components like electrodes, which will be sent from the German plant to the U.S.
