Thailand’s employment rate experienced a slight decline of 0.4 per cent in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year.
This marks an acceleration from the 0.1 per cent dip observed in the first quarter, primarily attributed to a contraction in agricultural jobs.
The country’s labour force shrank to 39.5 million individuals during the April-June period.
While the non-farm sectors witnessed a growth of 1.5 per cent, the decline in agricultural employment, which fell by five per cent year-on-year, outweighed the positive gains.
The hotel and restaurant sector continued its upward trajectory, expanding by 4.9 percent in the second quarter.
