Tourism Sector Lost EGP 10 bln: Elhamy El Zayat

Elhamy El Zayat, Chairman of Egyptian Tourism Federation, said the tourism sector total loss reached EGP 10 billion during the fiscal year 2011, due to the successive incidents took place on the political arena.

El Zayat added that the sector faced direct loss because some countries like Russia and Japan were cautious after the 25 Jan Revolution.

He referred to the necessity of the ongoing work on the former ministry’s plan, headed by Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour, in order to help Egypt be on the tourism map among countries.

He mentioned that the federation will submit two major problems that the sector faces to the new minister, Hesham Zazou, during the coming days. This is to support and activate the sector. These problems are the poor liquidity and employment, lack of 4% due to the circumstances that sector faces.

El Zayat called for the necessity of cooperation to activate the unit of teaching process in the federation to start giving courses to the fresh graduates.

On the other context, he pointed out that the federation referred some demands of supporting the sector to President Mohamed Morsi during the previous period. These demands are the necessity of restoring security as soon as possible, solving the employment and unemployment problems and finding rapid solutions for electricity and water.
