UK envoy says Egypt can be driving force

Northern Irish MP Jeffrey Donaldson, the UK trade envoy to Egypt, stated Monday that Egypt can be a driving force to help achieve economic prosperity in the whole Middle East.

Donaldson said Egypt has investment capabilities qualifying it to play this role.

The UK envoy said his government is keen to boost economic relations with Cairo, pointing out that British companies have several opportunities to invest in Egypt during the current phase.

The Suez Canal Economic Zone provides the largest investment opportunities in the world due to its strategic importance, he added.

Donaldson said a possible visit could be paid by Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority Ahmed Darwish to London next month.

There is considerable interest from British companies to invest in Egypt, he added.

I feel great optimism about the Egyptian economy, the UK envoy said.

I’m looking forward to witnessing the return of British flights to Sharm el-Sheikh as soon as possible, he added.

Despite the developments in the Middle East, Egypt is a safe and stable country, he underlined.

Britain’s government continues to support the Egyptian government’s efforts to stabilize exchange rate, and reduce the levels of bureaucracy hindering investments in any country in the world, he added.

We recognize the strategic importance of Egypt in the Middle East, so its stability is a priority for the United Kingdom, the UK envoy stressed.
