Upper Egypt Development Authority inks deal for agro-processing plants in Sohag, Assiut

The Upper Egypt Development Authority (UELDP) signed a protocol on Tuesday with the General Authority for the Implementation of Industrial and Mining Projects (IMPA) to establish two major agro-processing plants in Upper Egypt.

According to a Cabinet statement, the agreement outlines the construction of an onion and garlic drying plant in Sohag Governorate and a pomegranate processing plant in Assiut Governorate. The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote industrial development in the Upper Egypt region.

Under the protocol, the IMPA’s Executive Agency will develop the engineering designs for both facilities, drawing on its extensive experience in executing national industrial projects. The collaboration aims to add value to agricultural produce from Upper Egypt, enhance local industries, and create job opportunities in the region.

The move aligns with ongoing national strategies to stimulate economic growth in Upper Egypt and support the agro-industrial sector as a driver of sustainable development.
